
THE WSS OPERATOR IN SOFIA HAS MARKED THE WORLD WATER DAY WITH the official OPENING of A NEW PUBLIC DRINKING WATER TAP AND A RECREATION AREA IN THE CENTER OF SOFIA
A new public drinking water tap, a tennis table, two benches and separate waste collection bins are now available to Sofia residents and guests of the city. On 22 March – World Water Day, Sofiyska Voda, part of Veolia, the Municipality of Sofia and Sredets district officially opened the new facilities. They were constructed by the capital’s WSS operator.
“As you know, over the last year or two, water has turned out to be an increasingly important topic. And I am glad that in the water system management, we at Sofiyska Voda manage to use proven practices of Veolia Group from all over the world,” commented at the opening Lyubomir Filipov, Strategic Partnerships and Regulation Director at Sofiyska Voda, part of Veolia.
“It is good that we partner with the Municipality of Sofia not only for such projects, but also for the overall management of the water sector,” he also added. “So, let’s enjoy this public drinking water tap and I am calling for its protection because it is for us, our children and the guests of the city.”
The opening ceremony was attended also by Nadezhda Bobcheva, Deputy Mayor for Ecology of the Municipality of Sofia, who highlighted the good partnership with the capital’s WSS operator. “Our goal is also to reduce the use of plastics. Public drinking water taps such as this one are an example of that. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our colleagues from Sofiyska Voda on their holiday – the World Water Day.”
The symbolic host of the event was Traycho Traykov, Mayor of Sredets district, who announced that there were plans to improve the area around the new public drinking water tap. “I am glad that after the continuous efforts by the district administration, the Municipality of Sofia and Sofiyska Voda, we could have this functioning public drinking tap, for which I am sincerely grateful! I also urge people to take care of it.”
The new facilities donated by Sofiyska Voda are located in the Knyazheska Garden (Prince’s Garden) in the capital.
